The St. Catharines SkatePark Committee was formed in January 2001 by Kathy Huckla, City of St. Catharines Recreation Supervisor, and Sean Wynn, a Niagara College student. In order to get a better understanding of the over-all interest in a skatepark, they implemented a survey that was distributed to all St. Catharines schools and skateshops. By the end of March, the results were in...and due to the overwhelming support for a local park, the first meeting was scheduled to take place on June 19th, at the Russell Avenue Community Centre. Over a hundred people attended the meeting and the survey and feasibility of a park were discussed. A plan was put in place to present a report to City Council outlining the need for a skatepark. After many more meetings, the Skatepark Committee has organized events, fundraisers, logo's, t-shirts and this website, all directed towards "The Cause"...a high quality, superior designed, concrete skatepark for the youth of St. Catharines. The website name Cityskatepark.com was purchased, hosted and donated to the committee by SUD Skates, a skateboard shop in St. Catharines. The website was designed and is updated by Joe Wing, owner of Sud Skates. Any info, suggestions, pictures, links, complaints, etc, can be forwarded to Joe at rayzor11@aol.com. Attending almost all of the meetings has been Carol Disher, a member of St. Catharines City Council (St. Patrick's Ward), and a strong supporter of the skatepark. Along with providing the committee with valuable advice regarding city procedures, she has also supplied this website with info, pictures, newspaper clippings.
