St. Catharines Skatepark Meeting - Tuesday, May 14, 2002 RACC
1. Temporary Skatepark
The temporary skatepark
was approved by St. Catharines City Council on
Monday, May 12. The site is in the rear section of the Queen Elizabeth
Community Centre's parking lot. The parking lot will be swept and damaged areas
will be repaired by City staff. Signs for the park have been ordered.
Discussion took place about the condition of the pavement. Committee discussed
the possibility of companies donating their time and materials to pave the site.
Next step is to meet at the West 49 park at Prudhommes and start
taking apart the ramps.
Committee members are asked to assist on
Saturday, May I8 from 12 noon to 5 pm. People will also be required to take
apart the ramps on Saturday, May 25 between 9 am to 5 pm. Once the equipment is
at the QECC construction of the new park will begin. Nan will develop a design
for the park. Anyone willing to help construct the ramps should contact Kathy.
Hopefully construction of the park will begin after May 26.
Plan if possible to have some ramps ready for
June 1st. The first special event day will be Saturday, June 22. The day will
be advertised on the City page in the Standard and fliers will be distributed
at schools. Donation jars will be at the gate, Community Centres and interested
stores. Chris will look into the donation jars. We will need a1'1'roximately 25
-JO .jars.

site out. As of May 13, 180 hits for the site.
3. Skateboard
Video
Kevin Lanthier
prepared an excellent five minute video. The video was shown at the City
Council meeting last night. The video will be used when speaking to service
clubs and other interested agencies for donations towards the permanent skatepark.
4. T -shirts
Report back about t-shirts for the next meeting.
Shirts will have the SCSC logo and the slogan 'down for the cause'. The shirts
will be available for the June 22 event.
