Skatepark Meeting

Wednesday , March 20, 2002 Russell Avenue Community Centre

1. Welcome: Kathy Huckla outlined the agenda for the meeting and informed new people about the status of the park. Approximately 35 people were in attendance.

2. Web Site: The name for the site will be www.cityskatepark.com. SUDS has purchased the name for the site. Items on the site would include:

- home page detailing our goals (ie fundraising, etc), history, staff info and contacts, as well as a site guide

- upcoming events page giving details regarding all fundraising events, future meetings (as well info from past meetings)

- park locator, with pictures of other Ontario public parks, and links to their websites "'.message board where visitors can leave input, ideas

- email link where visitors can submit their emails to be informed of all events, info, updates, etc (this will help build our data-base)

- skate links to major skateboard web sites (this will get kids visiting the site more often) Committee members also had some different ideas for the site. People will bring their ideas to the next meeting.

3. Logo: Committee would like to develop a logo. Individuals will bring their ideas for a logo to

the next meeting. Logo could go on key chains, t-shirts which would be sold to raise money for the skatepark.

4. Presentation: Chris Clark is working on a video which will be used for presentations. Presentations include City Council, service clubs and interested businesses. The objectives of the presentations would be to make people aware of the need for a park and to raise needed funds. Chris will bring a draft version of the video to the next meeting. Included in the presentation would also be a power point presentation. Chris and a sub-committee are working on this task.

5. Fund Raiser events: (a) Showing a skateboard movie at the Town Cinemas. The movie can be shown during the day and the Theatre requires a $500.00 deposit. Date and price to be set for next meeting. Perhaps other events could be tied in after the movie. Ideas suggested free skate or 2 for 1 skate at SUDS, bands at a local bar.

(b ) Skateboard demo day at Bill Burgoyne arena. Booked for June 29 and/or 30. Details have to be confirmed about demo team and needed equipment.

Other fund raising ideas are to have a skateboarding contest for all ages. The event would be

held outdoors perhaps in the lower level parking lot. Refreshments would be available. Prizes would include equipment supplied from local businesses. The committee would like to involved in Grape and Wine. To have a float or skate through the parade with a banner. Another idea is to have a raffle.

6. Temporary Skatepark: Meeting participants inquired if a temporary skatepark could be set up in an arena. City arenas are all booked up with Lacrosse and hockey schools during the summer. Possibility of setting up a park in a section of an outdoor parking lot. People could be charged to use to park in order to start raising funds.

7. Next meeting: Monday, April 8th 7:30 pm RACC. Agenda items are Fund Raiser events, presentation package, logo, new ideas and develop working groups.
