Skatepark Meeting
Tuesday, April 23,

Welcome
Approximately
30 people attended the meeting, council was
represented by Councilor Carol Disher
Temporary Park
Location
will be the rear section of the Queen Elizabeth Community Centre parking lot.
Equipment will be donated by West 49. Volunteers will be needed to assist with
the loading and unloading of the equipment, date and time to be announced.
Equipment will be appropriate for all ages and levels. Proposed opening day
Friday, May 17, Victoria Day weekend and the park will be open until labour day. The park will be free of charge with a donation
jar in the Centre's office. The park will follow the same bylaws as a park and
will be open dawn to dusk.. For the opening day HTZ FM
will be contacted about doing a live broadcast, skatejam
will take place and pizza, pop and chips will be sold. Duffs restaurant will be
contacted to see if they will sale pizza at a discount prize for the event.
City Council Report
On
Monday, May 6 at 6:30 pm a report requesting the temporary park will go to
council. Committee members are asked to attend the meeting to show their
support. Presentation will include a video and perhaps a short
power point presentation. Kevin and/or Chris will
design the video. If approved the committee will quickly plan
opening weekend event.
Service Clubs
Once
the presentation is prepared service clubs will be approached for donations.
Rotary Club (Joe Wing) and Wise Guys will be the fIrst
clubs contacted. Other clubs include Lions, Optimist, Jaycees and Kiwanis. If
committee members have contacts at service clubs they will be asked to assist
in the presentations.
Logo
Ideas
for a logo were shared. People liked a combination of the logos. Keep the logo
simple. Discussed t-shirts and the logo. Members will
get quotes for the shirts. Shirts will sale for $15.00 each. Will order a small
order to see how the shirts sale before a ordering lOO+ shirts. The shirts could have the sponsors listed on
the back of the shirt. First order of shirts will be white.
Movie Night
For
convenience the skate videos may be shown at a Community Centre instead of Town
Cinemas. Date and other details to be confirmed.
Perhaps show skate videos during opening day in the gym at QECC.
Demo Day, Canada Day weekend
Committee
needs to determine the feasibility of this event. Discuss at next meeting.
Grape and Wine
Application
for the parade is due June 30, 2002. We can put a group/display in the parade,
needs to be entertaining and needs to relate to the theme of heros.
Web Site
The
site is almost complete. Kathy Huckla will provide
needed background information for the site. A link will be established from the
City page.
